Making international calls can be very expensive when using a traditional fixed-line telephone, a trade publication has said.
TCMnet warns that this technology is more than a decade old and the global communications requirements of the modern era could require the use of alternative methods.
One such option suggested by the industry news source is VoIP. Describing such telephony as "the best way to move forward", it stated that
VoIP services have changed the way in which people think about communications technology.
Part of this is the capacity it offers to make
cheap international calls, useful for businesses and individuals who maintain an increasingly international group of friends or business interests, it said.
TCMnet asserted: "[The] world wide web has brought about a revolution in the field of telecommunication by providing a platform for
VoIP telephony."
According to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics, Britons are opting to explore the world physically too, with a one per cent rise in overseas trips recorded in the year ending July 2007.
