BT mulls faster broadband

BT mulls faster broadbandBT is said to be considering the development of a new, faster fixed-line broadband infrastructure, a move likely to be good news for VoIP users.

The company is mulling a £10 billion project that would also involve the government and regulators to extend the optical fibre network to more residential properties, the Financial Times reports.

Ian Livingston, head of the firm's retail division, said that a pilot project would take place in Kent, potentially proving the worth of implementing such a system on a wider scale.

"BT remains very interested in further expanding the speed of access for customers, whether that be through faster copper, fibre to the home, fibre to the cabinet," he told the publication.

Vonage UK offers a range of calling plans providing unlimited calls to 25 countries, including the UK. Unlimited calls for the UK and Ireland start from just £5.99 a month.
