Expert: VoIP is here to stay

Expert: VoIP is here to stayOrganisations have accepted that VoIP is "here to stay" and will not be a short-term trend, one leading industry figure has said.

Maren Bennette, the leader of the Unified Communications Forum of the Communications Management Association (CMA), said that the decision of big companies to adopt VoIP technology shows the impact it has had.

Initially, smaller firms were the ones taking the chance and implementing such equipment, but larger enterprises soon followed suit and brought it into the mainstream of the business world.

"These organisations take longer to make their decisions because their size creates inertia when it comes to change," explained Mr Bennette.

"They are also more conservative in the adoption of new technology."

In addition, he cited research that indicates that the adoption of VoIP is set to continue in the future.

The CMA is an independent body for industry professionals that seeks to take advantage of new communications to gain an edge in business.
