UK 'ninth in broadband survey'

UK 'ninth in broadband survey'Britain has been ranked ninth in a new survey carried out by the think tank Information Technology Innovation Foundation that looked at broadband connection speeds.

Finland topped the report, with users of broadband there getting access to speeds of 2.17 Mega bits per second (Mbps), while subscribers in the UK have speeds of just 2.6Mbps.

Sweden and Finland have both invested heavily in fibre networks that enable quicker connection, the organisation stated.

The UK, on the other hand, has a relatively outdated copper wire network which sufficiently decreases speeds.

Finnish customers also pay less for services than those in the UK, the report found.

A broadband connection is needed to make VoIP products work with greater ease and speed.

The leading way is offered by Vonage to use VoIP technology in order to provide low cost calls.

Also this week, it has been reported that a campaign by Computeractive magazine to make broadband providers offer more information on their services has gathered pace.ADNFCR-1208-ID-18300587-ADNFCR
