The scheme to extend broadband service levels in Scotland should also look to improve current poor-quality areas, one MP has claimed.

David Mundell, MP for Tweeddale, responded to calls from the Scottish government to improve access to broadband and said that the service was simply not quick enough in many areas, reports the BBC.

Mr Mundell hoped that the £3.5 million project will help to curb the issue and also enhance the current level of service.

"Some areas are classed as having broadband but in essence the service is just not fast enough. This new scheme should take into account people getting broadband at an unacceptable level," he told the news provider.

He has been the MP for Tweddale since 2005 and is the shadow secretary of state for Scotland.
