British parents are finding that giving up the nine-to-five grind to become a freelancer lets them spend more time with their children through flexible working.
Being able to mostly work from home has boosted new mothers' earning options, according to Freelancers in the UK co-founder Katie Kirk.
"Many parents opt for freelancing to take advantage of more flexible working arrangements as their children grow," she said.
However, she suggested that freelancing can still be time-consuming and it "is not shorthand for part-time work".
The growth of broadband has allowed easier communications from workers' homes to their office and web-based calls can allow them to keep in contact without increasing their phone bill.
Services from industry-leading internet phone provider
Vonage could be used by flexible workers to improve their communications with their place of work without leading to higher costs.
Unlimited web-based phone calls to the UK and Ireland are included in the
VonageV-Plan 1 for £5.99 a month.
