Millions plan for a greener New Year

Millions plan for a greener New YearUK consumers are set to make a commitment to a more environmentally-friendly future in their New Year's resolutions, according to Friends Provident.

Research by the finance firm suggested that some 13 million Britons are planning to cut their energy consumption and carbon footprints by taking up habits such as tuning off unused lights and using more efficient bulbs.

Julia Dreblow, marketing manager for socially responsible investment at Friends Provident, said: "Without a doubt green issues will be on Brits' minds more than ever in 2008, many of whom have New Year's Resolutions to live greener lives, ranging from being more environmentally friendly in their homes to being more ethically minded when they shop."

Another tactic that Britons have adopted to reduce their impact on the environment is working from home, as this means they avoid adding to carbon pollution by driving into the office.

Unfortunately, keeping in touch with the office has previously been an expensive drawback to this environmentally-friendly plan.

But employees can now avoid paying higher telephone bills by switching to an internet call service such as the one offered by industry leader Vonage.

Workers can save the planet, save money and remain just a call away from clients or colleagues by signing up for V-Plan 1, which includes unlimited free UK and Ireland calls for a fixed monthly price of just £5.99.ADNFCR-1208-ID-18402500-ADNFCR
