Deadline for Scottish broadband scheme looms

Deadline for Scottish broadband scheme loomsPeople who have struggled to get broadband in Scotland have been urged to sign up for a new project designed to help resolve the problem before the deadline for registration passes later this month.

Some people living a long way from their telephone exchange have been unable to get broadband internet access despite their area being classed as broadband enabled, campaigners say.

Now, people eager to get online have until January 18th to sign up to the Broadband for Scotland initiative being organised by the Scottish government.

It aims to offer assistance everybody who wants to be able to surf the internet at high speeds but who have been 'out-of-reach' of broadband providers.

In a letter to the Highland News, Dave Thomas, member of Scottish parliament for the Highlands and Islands, said: "It's important that individuals and businesses make themselves known to the government so we can get a true picture of where the problem areas are and endeavour to get a solution which will help bring people into the 21st Century."

Access to a broadband internet connection allows people to take advantage of cheap calls from VoIP providers.

Vonage call plans start from only £5.99 per month for unlimited calls to the UK & Ireland.ADNFCR-1208-ID-18422285-ADNFCR
