The tiny Kent town of Ebbsfleet is to receive the fastest broadband in the country in a new system being installed by BT.
Set to rival the high-speed networks available in South East Asia, the fibre broadband lines will replace the traditional copper cables to create the UK's fastest ever residential web connections.
"Openreach will provide the basic infrastructure and service providers will have the opportunity to build their own services on the back of it," explained head of BT Openreach Steve Robertson.
"Ultra fast broadband is a key future technology that will allow our businesses to innovate, grow and create wealth as well as providing even greater options for consumers."
Although prices are set to be higher for the fastest 100MB lines, some broadband fans may think it a price worth paying to have super-fast downloads, instant video streaming and the opportunity to have crystal clear voice call services, such as those offered by Vonage.
With prices starting at just £5.99 a month for unlimited calls to the UK and Ireland, many Ebbsfleet residents could find themselves tempted to try out the top quality voice reception provided by their high-bandwidth lines.
