Energy supplier E.ON is the latest in a string of utility companies to announce price rises for electricity and gas.
The provider announced yesterday that its rates for gas will increase by 15 per cent, while electricity costs will increase 9.7 per cent.
It will take the average annual household dual-fuel bill from £913 to £1,063, price comparison site uSwitch reports.
A spokesperson for uSwitch describes it as "a move that will shock few, but disappoint many, of its customers."
Four of the 'big six' energy suppliers have also recently announced price increases, although a recent watchdog has announced that a growing number of at-risk groups are finding it increasingly difficult to pay their energy bills.
The Fuel Poverty Advisory Group (FPAG) has recently criticised the government's record on ensuring that people are not left struggling to heat their homes.
A study by consumer group Energywatch also found that some utility companies are charging people more if they don't pay by direct debit, which allows the companies to get their money back faster than other means of payment.
