Britain 'well connected'

Britain 'well connected'The UK is the 12th most well connected country in the world in terms of internet and IT services, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to the Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008, Britain ranked higher than Australia, Japan, France and Italy among many others, while Denmark took the top spot.

Sweden and Switzerland rounded out the top three, while the US came in fourth place.

Now in its seventh year, the WEF asserts that it has become the most authoritative and comprehensive analysis of the impact of IT on the development processes in countries across the world.

Countries were judged on a number of factors, with a particular focus on the way in which IT is used to spur innovation and promote growth in the country.

Elsewhere, the Economist Intelligence Unit published the results of its e-readiness survey, which placed the UK eighth in terms of IT preparedness. The US took the top spot from Denmark, while Hong Kong came second.

Vonage allows people connected to the internet to make cheap calls using broadband phone services, with the V-Plan 2 particularly suited to those making a high volume of international calls.
