Women with children needn't be left out from working from home, it has been claimed.
Karen Gill, the founder of business resource and support service everywoman, said that many women with commitments can take advantage of homeworking to begin their own enterprise.
"Working from home is an enormous motivator for women with children, who still do the lion share of home and family care," she said.
Currently, one-fifth of self-employed women state that the main reason for this pattern is commitments to their family.
The growth in broadband penetration is almost certainly helping to boost this trend. Currently, broadband is present in more than 50 per cent of UK households, according to figures from Ofcom.
And in addition to web access, women entrepreneurs can take advantage of
VoIP connectivity via broadband to make cheap calls.
Vonage UK offers a package allowing users to make unlimited calls to the UK and Ireland for £5.99 a month.
