Many firms no longer have to worry about where they set up shop as they can use the internet to allow their employees to work from home, it has been suggested.
Small business advice group Business Link noted that companies no longer have to rely on finding workers from the local area due to advances in computing and communications technology.
Employees are being given more flexible working options that let them work from home thanks to the spread of broadband across the UK, the development of secure business web connections and improvements to the quality and reliability of internet telephony.
Sanil Misty, a local area business advisor for Business Link, said that firms are now able to choose a location close to other similar companies which could help them grow and attract customers.
"[An important factor] is looking for access to link companies," he said.
"If a company is doing something that is reliant on a certain range of other companies, then obviously it would want to be in the best environment to access them and be in touch with them quickly."
Companies choosing to take advantage of internet
phone calls can improve their productivity, allow employees to work from home and
save on their phone bills.
