Flexible working 'can reduce stress levels'

Flexible working 'can reduce stress levels'Escaping from the nine-to-five tedium can free employees from their stressful lifestyles, it has been suggested.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, some 420,000 people in the UK have suffered so badly from work-related stress that it caused them to fall ill.

But the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) has advised that embracing flexible working practices can ease the pressure.

"Flexible working can be used very positively to manage your day better," said ISMA vice chair Ann McCracken.

"Some people are morning people and some people are evening people and there's a big advantage to having a job where you're working at your peak time."

She outlined six key factors that produce stress at work, including the level of control an employee feels they have, the demands of the role and the support they receive from management and colleagues.

Internet phone services can make it even easier than before to work from home, as the free calls allow employees to keep in touch with the office without racking up huge bills.

Call plans from industry-leader Vonage offer unlimited calls to the UK and Ireland for just £5.99 a month.ADNFCR-1208-ID-18372107-ADNFCR
