Working abroad 'more common due to globalisation'

Working abroad 'more common due to globalisation'Growth in the number of multi-national corporations which span the globe has led to an increase in people spending part of their career overseas, it has been suggested.

According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), this is most pronounced in the banking, accountancy and oil sectors.

Elspeth Farrar, communications director for AGCAS, said that a person taking up a career in the oil industry has "a very strong likelihood that you will spend part of your time working abroad".

She added: "Often the people that go abroad have specific skills or will be working at a specific level within a company to go and get transfers or placements abroad.

"A lot will be involved in some kind of teaching or education abroad [and] a lot will be working at management level, so it's not surprising that a high proportion are graduates."

People working abroad trying to keep in touch with friends and family back home may find savings by taking up a call plan from leading internet phone company Vonage.

Under V-Plan 3, customers can make unlimited free calls from 25 different countries around the world for the flat rate of £9.99 a month.ADNFCR-1208-ID-18373413-ADNFCR
