Homeworking 'looks set to grow'

Homeworking 'looks set to grow'The number of people choosing to work from home is likely to grow as internet services make doing so easier, an expert has suggested.

Commenting recently, George Derbyshire, chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, commented that many of today's businesses can be run on email and mobile phones.

While he anticipated a slight dip in the number of new businesses forming over the course of the year, Mr Derbyshire said that homeworking as a trend was likely to continue.

"New business owners can focus on getting their business off the ground first and foremost without the risk or financial pressure of workspace overheads," he explained.

According to statistics published by Flexibility, there has been steady growth in the number of people choosing to work from home since 1997, when there was a nine per cent increase. In 2005, that figure increased to 11 per cent.
