The European Union (EU) telecoms commissioner Viviane Reding has denied that there are factions in the European commission regarding plans to split up the big companies.
Her comments came after the EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes earlier this week was rumoured to have attacked the plans to separate operators' networks and services to allow competitors to enter the fray, reports Forbes.com.
"As for functional separation, the European Regulators Group (ERG) is unanimous on functional separation and nobody can ignore this presentation of 27 regulators and 27 different countries," she commented.
Recently, the ERG stated that functional separation of networks in the EU would be a good thing.
