New jacket offers parents GPS tracking of their kids

New jacket offers parents GPS tracking of their kidsFrom the makers of slash-proof Kevlar school uniform comes a new jacket which keeps track of the wearer's location using a global positioning system (GPS).

Clothing manufacturer Blade Runner created the spy-like device in partnership with Asset Monitoring Solutions as a way for parents to always know where their children are.

"There are parents who are very concerned about their child's safety and this will give them peace of mind," Blade Runner managing partner Adrian Davis told the Guardian.

However, with a price tag of £250 and a monthly charge for the satellite tracking of £10, keeping tabs on where your child has gone may seem an expensive business.

Perhaps instead of coughing up for an Orwellian tracking device, these concerned parents would simply be satisfied with the ability to contact their son or daughter wherever they are in the world without having to be concerned about mobile batteries running out or rapidly disappearing call credit.

In such cases, the solution could be the smaller-than-pocket-sized VonageV-Phone which would allow the child to get in touch cheaply wherever there is a PC and a broadband connection – without the worry of running out of battery power.

Vonagecall plans start from only £5.99 per month for unlimited calls to the UK & Ireland.
