Nine of ten UK net users are on broadband

Nine of ten UK net users are on broadbandBroadband has claimed a dominant position among internet users in the UK, with nearly nine out of ten people who use the web connecting via the high-speed lines.

Official figures for September showed that 88.4 per cent of Britons are now using broadband rather than dial-up internet services.

This is equivalent to a 26 per cent rise over the last year as the UK continues to switch to faster web connections.

In addition, the research showed that almost half of the broadband lines being used are services providing connection speeds of greater than two megabits per second.

This would allow UK users to make use of bandwidth-heavy online websites and services, such as streamed video on YouTube, web radio from the BBC or internet phone calls over their broadband connection.

Call plans offered by leading low cost internet phone company Vonage include unlimited free calls to the UK and Ireland for just £5.99 a month, as well as other free call options that cover up to 25 countries.
