A spokesperson for the Broadband Stakeholders' Group (BSG) has stated that the future of broadband will focus on access, quality of service and speed.

In a special report on the BBC News website, BSG chief executive Anthony Walker has stated that as high-speed broadband becomes more popular, consumers will become more demanding of the services they require.

His comments follow a recent debate about the lack of clarity of some broadband packages, with many customers finding that the service experienced fails to live up to advertised speeds.

"Consumers are clearly becoming more savvy about their broadband services and want broadband to be fast and reliable," asserts Mr Walker.

He also advises that there will be continued debate over how high-speed broadband services will be delivered - and how much consumers will end up paying for them.

Although there is currently "uncertainty about demand and potential revenues," recent high-speed project announcements by a number of broadband providers "could mark out the beginning of the road" to universal high-speed broadband services throughout the UK, he asserts.
