BT customers 'left without service'

BT customers 'left without service'Around 100 BT customers were left without telephone services in Leeds after a telephone cable was severed during engineering works.

Jason Mann, from the telecoms giant, said that it received around 15 complaints from local residents, adding that there could have been many more.

A spokesperson for the city council said: "Everything is done to minimise this type of accident but unfortunately, because a lot of the work is carried out underground, they do happen occasionally."

Residents were left unable to make or receive calls for around five-and-a-half hours, with BT eventually rectifying the problem at around 20:45 GMT.

The unfortunate interruption to BT's services comes at a time when the company is receiving criticism for failing to provide adequate levels of service to their customers.

The Citizens Advice Bureau has reported that a large majority of BT customers are either dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the BT's call centre service.

Vonage's internet phone services offer a secure way to make cheap calls using broadband connections.
