A new study has revealed that around 20 per cent of newborn babies in the UK may have an online presence within ten minutes, with parents sending photos via phone and email.

The report by broadband provider Orange asserts that one in five parents send photos of their offspring to friends and family using camera phones as soon as they are born.

A further 20 per cent said that they had created an online social networking page for their child before it had left the womb.

There is an average of 722,500 babies born in the UK each year, which means that as many as 57,000 may have webpages dedicated to them.

Around one in seven parents also said that they had published pictures of their ultrasound results online, allowing friends and family to see the child on the web before it had been born.

According to Internet World Stats, there are around 40 million people in the UK using internet services.
