UK broadband provider BT has announced that internet service providers ISPs need to give clearer guidance on the speeds offered by their products.
The telecoms giant has made the announcement following much recent discussion of the lack of high-quality services provided to UK residents.
A newly-released study by industry analyst Point Topic cited by the Daily Mail has found that of 4,000 users who signed up to high-speed providers - including BT - around 96 per cent of people did not receive the data transfer rates that were advertised.
Sky was the top performing provider, followed by Virgin Media and Tiscali, while BT was found to be the second slowest supplier.
Regarding the problems in the advertisement of broadband services, a BT spokesperson told the BBC: "The industry needs to join together with Ofcom to agree a set of principles as to how these messages should be communicated."
Only then would customers be able to make the most informed decision, he continued.
Vonage is allowing customers to use their broadband connections to make
cheap calls using its
VoIP service, which requires a relatively low bandwidth to function.
