
One couple living in Longridge, near Preston, have expressed their outrage at being left with a £150 bill for a phone line they don't have.
Yvonne Tanner has told the Lancashire Evening Post that she and her partner Steve have been left with an invoice for the installation of a telephone line after moving in to a new property, even though the contracted engineer did not show up to install the line.
BT has now threatened to cut off the line if they do not pay the bill, even though there is no such service to disconnect.
Ms Tanner has since given up trying to contact BT using her mobile phone after spending up to 40 minutes on hold at a time.
"I've even contacted the telecommunications ombudsman but they can't help," she said.
The telecoms giant has since apologised to Mr and Mrs Tanner and is attempting to arrange a suitable time to install a new line.
In recent developments, telecoms regulator Ofcom has stated that it will force compliance with new guidelines aimed at making bills clearer for consumers.
