Door-to-door sales 'the future' of broadband

Door-to-door sales 'the future' of broadbandAs high-speed fibre optics technology becomes more of a reality, many consumers and resellers will look to capitalise on the technology, it has been suggested.

Commenting on a recent report by the Fibre-to-the-Home Council, online resource Telecoms suggests that in the future Britain will see a 'battleground' in the provision of ultra-fast broadband products.

Some of the predictions included: "Door-to-door salesmen touting 100Mbps connections. Field engineers fighting over permission to wire up apartment blocks. Coffee mornings about ultra-high-speed broadband for the over-60s. House-proud homeowners digging telecoms trenches in a bid to boost property prices," the publication notes.

It comments that the fibre-based broadband market is certainly lucrative, with the companies pioneering such services sure to attract many loyal customers, with some predicting the consumers will pay thousands of pounds to have the services installed in their home.

A recent article by TechRadar asserts that - as well as being able to handle VoIP services and extensive downloads - fibre-based internet will also pave the way for affordable high-definition movies and TV programming.

Vonage's internet phone services allow people to save money when calling at home and abroad.
