
New research has suggested that Britons may look to take shorter holidays to cheaper destinations in order to ease the strain on their finances.
A recent report by the Post Office predicts a sharp rise in the number of people taking weekend city breaks over longer holidays in order to reduce expenditure.
It likens the potential rise to that witnessed following the events of Black Monday in October 1987, when many people flocked to destinations such as Barcelona, Prague and Dublin to reduce holiday spending.

With a credit crunch widely forecast, UK holidaymakers may well follow the same route this year," notes head of travel at the Post Office Helen Warburton.
Such news is followed by recent assertions by the Fair Investment Company stating that many first-time buyers in the UK are now looking abroad to get on the property ladder to avoid high property prices.
