How to beat inflation

How to beat inflationIn a worsening economic environment, the Times has looked at the spending of four consumer groups to see if savings could be made on monthly outgoings.

The spending of professional couples, young families, single professionals and pensioner couples were all examined and several key areas where money could be saved were identified for the various groups.

Taking a typical professional couple, the publication notes that £544 can be saved annually by switching insurance policies, while £313 could be saved if switched from BT's bundled phone, broadband and TV package.

A new mortgage was found to deliver savings of £552 for young families, with pensioners also set to receive the biggest savings by reviewing their insurance premiums.

For the single professional, mobile phone bills were said to be the most costly expenditure, with nearly £2,000 to be saved by switching to an international mobile tariff.

A VoIP package such as that provided by Vonage may also be of use, which allows customers to make cheap calls at home and abroad.

Online consumer advice site Money Savings Expert also recommends switching broadband supplier to make a saving, with Talk Talk's bundled package found to be the best option.

Vonage is committed to providing a low-cost, high-quality broadband phone service.
