Geo sees high-speed problems

Geo sees high-speed problemsCommunications firm Geo has suggested that there could be some significant difficulties in delivering high-speed broadband to residential consumers via fibre cables, it has emerged.
.
In response to the announcement of an Ofcom investigation into the issue, Geo's chief executive Chris Smedley has said that fibre cables should be relatively easy to install in the centre of London but not so straightforward in its surrounding areas.

"It's reasonable to anticipate that most of the sewer infrastructure near domestic areas will present far more challenges when it comes to the installation of optical fibre as opposed to commercial developments," said Mr Smedley.

He went on to say that for high-speed broadband delivered via fibre cables embedded under London's city streets can offer an "ideal solution" to business communication problems in the capital.

Earlier this week, Ofcom launched its investigation into what would need to be done to bring high-speed broadband to residential areas and business communities around the UK in future

Vonage allows those with broadband connections to make cheap calls using VoIP products, with the V-Plan 1 available at £5.99 per month.
