Mobile broadband services could have overtaken their fixed counterparts by 2010, it is suggested.
Such connectivity, which potentially enables users to take advantage of
VoIP products while on the go, is partly precipitated by the growth in bandwidth and subsequent speeds available, claims Johna Till Johnson.
The expert, who is the president and senior founding partner of independent technology research company Nemertes Research, made the comments in an article for Techworld.
She wrote: "The bottom line: wireless has been around for so long we've begun to take it for granted - and that's a mistake.
"It's time to plan for tomorrow's multi-megabit mobile networks."
Both companies and individuals are currently able to utilise broadband for
VoIP technology, enabling them to make
cheap calls to all numbers.
Before her role at Nemertes research, Ms Till Johnson was the senior technology editor of Data Communications magazine and claims to be one of the first people to recognise the full potential of the internet.
