More Britons travelled abroad in search of sun in the last year, according to new figures released by the Office for National Statistics.
Between August 2006 and the same month this year, 69.6 million trips were made to overseas shores by the UK public, the department claimed, which was a 1.5 per cent rise on the preceding year's figures.
European travel was still a possible option, as 54.8 million holidays were taken in countries on the continent.
President of the Association of British Travel Agents Justin Fleming said that the trend of British people heading abroad has continued.
"Our love affair with foreign travel is in fine shape. Europe is still our number one destination but we are increasingly looking to visit other parts of the world," she commented.
A report from The Thrifty Scot recently stated that backpackers should take out a good level of insurance before they start travelling.
Those heading for other shores could use the
Vonage V-Phone to stay in touch with family members. It's small enough to fit onto a keyring and is perfect for travellers.
Business travellers could even use the Vonage
VoIP router, which enables calls to be made over the internet wherever there's access to a broadband connection.
