Although he may be soon to turn 103, Eric King-Turner has become Britain's oldest emigrant by last week setting sail for a new life in New Zealand.

Mr King-Turner embarked on a six-week sea journey on January 5th from Southampton that will see him emigrate to his wife Doris' native country.

Doris has kept a house on New Zealand's south island for the 13 years the couple have been married and living in the UK - and despite her husband's age, she told the BBC: "He's very easy to get on with and he settles down very quickly, so I think he'll quite enjoy it out there."

The adventurous spirit of Mr King-Turner could be seen as an example to us all that it is never too late to head off to see the world, or even move abroad.
