Price comparison site uSwitch has applauded Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) for delaying a rise in fuel prices until the end of the winter months.
The firm comments that as the last of the big six energy suppliers to raise its prices, its customers may have found it easier to keep warm during the last few months.
However, the company notes that it will not come as a surprise to its customers that SSE is now following suit with other providers, with a newly announced price rise of 14.2 per cent for electricity coming into effect on April 1st.
Gas prices for SSE customers will also increase by 15.8 per cent, amounting to an average annual fuel bill of £1,006.
Following the rises, uSwitch advises customers: "The question on customers' lips should now be, are there further price rises to come, especially as we head towards next winter."
Meanwhile, a recent study by Alliance Trust has found that the elderly are hardest hit by increases in food and energy costs.
