Following Scottish and Southern Energy's (SSEs) recent price hike for its gas and electricity services, industry watchdog Which? has suggested that now is the time to switch energy suppliers.
Electricity for SSE customers will rise by 14.2 per cent on average, while gas will increase by 15.8 per cent, with annual household bills expected to break the £1,000 mark in the coming months.
Siobhan Parker, spokesperson for the consumer watchdog, says: "This latest price increase is the green light to switch ... making sure youre getting the best deal for your home energy is a smart and easy way to take some of the pressure off."
The firm states that it is common practice for people to review their mobile and landline phone packages to make sure they are getting the best deal and consumers should look to do the same with their energy suppliers.
A recent report by uSwitch has found that £1.5 billion has been added to the cost of household energy bills as a result of the price hikes, with further increases predicted.
