Water bills rise further

Water bills rise furtherAll 22 water companies in the UK will be raising prices against inflation from today (April 1st) it has been noted.

Price comparison site uSwitch has announced that the average cost of water bills will increase six per cent, amounting to an annual charge of £330 for water and sewage.

Although UK workers will be taking home on average £44 month more this year, monthly outgoings for utilities, telecoms and other living costs look set to increase by an average of £148 per month.

The site suggests that consumers should approach their water company and ask to be put on a water meter, with £125 by switching from estimated readings.

Tim Wolfenden, head of home services at uSwitch, comments: "To say that this couldn't come at a worse time for consumers is an understatement - an extra tug on the purse strings is the last thing that many need."

According to the price comparison site, consumers are also facing penalty charges of £237 million on their telecommunications costs for choosing to pay their phone and broadband bills by methods other than direct debit.

Vonage is committed to providing customers with a secure way to make cheap calls over the internet using VoIP services.
