Suggestions abound once again that consumers in the UK may be being subject to sharp practice by retail giants.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has reported that it is investigating possible price fixing following a number of raids on the headquarters of the UK's major supermarkets.

Surprise visits made to the offices of Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's, as well as their suppliers, has led it to state that it will be making further enquiries, the Guardian reports.

"We don't really understand what the OFT thinks we have done wrong. The OFT did turn up unannounced, but to call it a raid is a bit dramatic," an unnamed supermarket source told the publication.

Asda stated that it was cooperating with enquiries, Tesco asserted that it was confident it was acting in the interests of consumers and Morrison’s was not available for comment.
