Average car insurance premiums have risen to by six per cent in the last year, according to reports.
Research undertaken by MoneyExpert found that the average premium is now £682 in the UK and that one in four drivers has seen their premiums rise in the last 12 months as insurers increase the burden on drivers.
The research showed that up to 9.6 million affected drivers simply absorbed the inflated premiums and MoneyExpert is now urging consumers to shop around.
Sean Gardner of MoneyExpert.com, said: "It is worrying that when faced with an increase in car insurance premiums of more than double the rate of inflation so many drivers just shrug their shoulders and accept it."
According to Fool.co.uk, nine out of ten British consumers disagree with the government's figures on inflation. While the government shows the rate of inflation at 2.2 per cent, Fool.co.uk's Inflation Index places the figure at four times that level, 8.8 per cent.
