Security tips for VoIP users

Security tips for VoIP usersBusinesses that plan to take advantage of VoIP calls must pay careful attention to security details, it has been claimed.

John Edwards, writing for Voip-News, stated that while such technology offers "many cost, efficiency and productivity benefits", its commercial users must ensure they are security savvy.

Techniques that can be utilised to ensure that a business does not expose itself to potential risks include the installation of firewalls at access points and the use of authentication and encryption tools.

"Since VoIP shares many technologies with computer-focused data networks, the need to safeguard internet telephony developments is very real," he wrote.

However, he also noted that vendors and service providers make it clear that using VoIP products on existing data networks can result in cost savings.

A recent study reported by Security Focus found that companies could prevent hacker attempts on VoIP by securing their systems.
