The number of foreign students who are receiving education in the UK is continuing to rise, a new report has revealed.
Such students, who may be able to take advantage of
VoIP products to make
cheap international calls to families in their native countries, are flooding in from countries such as Hong Kong, China and the US, according to the Universities UK (UUK) data.
According to a report in the Telegraph, the figures showed that the number heading to the UK from outside the EU has doubled over the last ten years. Over the last year the number travelling from India has risen by a third.
In all, 330,080 foreign students now make the UK their home.
And while this may be good news for
VoIP providers, fears have been raised over the lack of skilled Britons taking subjects with known shortages.
Professor Geoffrey Crossick of UUK told the Times: "The concern is that should these people return home, the flow of researchers will dry up and that will cause problems for the UK economy."
