Small businesses in the UK are being urged to recognise the benefits of broadband internet access, with the publication of a new advice booklet this week.
The pocketbook guide, launched by UK Online and the Institute of Directors (IoD) is designed to inform small businesses of how using the internet and having an online presence can improve the operation of their business.
Step-by-step guides on all aspects of the internet are provided, including broadband access, website set-ups and using
VoIP.
According to recent statistics from Eurostat, only 77 per cent of UK small businesses are connected to broadband internet - significantly fewer than in many other European countries.
"Being online nowadays is fundamental as the internet has placed almost unlimited information and choice in the hands of the consumer," explained Chris Stening, managing director of UK Online.
"Not having a website, even a basic site which describes your business and provides contact details, is a serious omission."
The IoD said that the guide fulfilled the need of many businesses for straightforward advice about what could be achieved online with reasonable resources.
