Technological advancements in the workplace such as the development of
VoIP and other communication tools means that outsourcing is becoming more popular than ever in British businesses.
While traditionally the business model has involved backroom staff and receptionists being in the same building as other workers, the development of new technologies such as VoIP means that often this is no longer necessary.
The technological advancements mean that significant cost savings can be achieved.
"Outsourcing makes financial sense mostly because office rents and the costs of recruitment are going up," commented Rachel Clacher, the director of outsourcing agency Moneypenny's, speaking to the Guardian.
"One of our clients outsourced their entire reception facility to us and they're saving more than £90,000 a year."
And this does not have to mean that jobs are moved overseas either, outsource specialists argue, as outsourcing to other companies within the UK is becoming increasingly common.
