France VoIP take-up increases

France VoIP take-up increasesBrits with family or friends in France will be buoyed by the news that the country's VoIP take-up has seen a boost.

Speaking to loved-ones based across the Channel looks set to get easier after figures show that 22 per cent of France's fixed phone lines are now regularly used for VoIP.

The data from French telecoms regulator Arcep showed that the number of VoIP lines in France in June had hit 8.7 million - a 77.5 per cent rise on the same month a year previously.

Recently released figures from Eurostat confirmed the rise in take up - showing that 86 per cent of small businesses in France have broadband connections compared to just 77 per cent in the UK.

VoIP is becoming an increasingly popular method of staying in touch with friends and family overseas as it is often a cheaper option and can allow you to see who you are chatting to via webcam.
