Millions of families and young people could be heading away in early 2008 after grabbing bargains on holiday deals in the post-Christmas sales.
Experts have pointed out that, due to competition from online holiday tour companies and other cheap deals, many major holiday operators are slashing prices on their holidays, tempting more and more people to head overseas.
One expert told the Daily Express newspaper that "dream holidays will be available at dream prices", as the stiff competition for holidaymakers' money heats up over the winter period.
And with large numbers of firms launching "early bird offers" for those booking their trips overseas first, many are being forced to drop prices and make more deals available.
Simon Robinson, executive director for distribution at Thomas Cook UK and Ireland, told the paper that his firm was even offering "free days".
"Normally at this time of year you'd expect holiday companies to offer just money off, but to show that we really want our campaign to make a difference we're prepared to offer our holidaymakers a day off now," he said.
