There are a growing number of tech-savvy students using
VoIP services and now teachers are beginning to realise the benefits of the technology, it has been reported.
According to the Guardian, a number of recent projects have been launched which aim to harness the power of
VoIP to bring educational benefits for pupils.
The British Council has recently started such an initiative, with a high-profile web launch aimed at attracting users to its English language learning programme, which will use
VoIP technology to create an interactive environment.
Such schemes are becoming increasingly popular throughout the UK and abroad, with similar projects already operating in the US.
"Not only is
VoIP immediate, it is also cheap. If you have a computer and a fast internet connection, calls can be free or made at a fraction of the cost," the publication states, highlighting the benefits for pupils and teachers.
