Students urged to keep phones safe

Students urged to keep phones safeWest Yorkshire Police have urged students heading to the area to keep their mobile phones safe as they are an attractive target to thieves.

Officers have created a special website which features advice on how to keep a phone and other gadgets secure, while also offering more general safety information.

In addition, operations will see added protection given to student accommodation and universities and colleges in the area.

Vonage UK offers a low-cost alternative to mobile phones with its VoIP-enabled V-Phone. Fitting onto a keyring, it enables anyone to make cheap calls from any PC with a broadband connection.

Detective Inspector Duncan Macnay, West Yorkshire Police's crime reduction officer, commented: "For many students this will be there first period away from home and while we want them to have a great time and enjoy their studies, we want to ensure that they stay safe."
