The availability of low-cost airlines linking the UK to Europe means short city breaks are becoming increasingly popular among Britons, experts say.
An OAG report from earlier this year found that the number of low-cost seats has doubled to two million in the last year, as tourists, businesspeople and holidaymakers take advantage of the improved accessibility of the continent.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), explained: "Short city breaks are extremely popular.
"One of the main reasons for the increase in the popularity of short city breaks is the low cost carriers. As soon as they started offering flights, prices dropped substantially.
"Now, when the flights are so much cheaper, people will go away for a couple of days on the spur of the moment because it is very affordable. Get on a flight and two hours later you are in the south of France."
And the increase in business travellers as well as tourists means intercontinental phone use is also increasing.
You can make and receive calls on the go with the Vonage V-Phone. Small enough to fit onto a keyring, it acts like a fully functioning landline once plugged into the USB port of a broadband connected PC. Perfect for students, travellers and businessmen on the move.
