High speed rail links between London and mainland Europe will make cross-channel commutes a realistic prospect in the near future, the UK wing of France's national rail carrier has claimed.
Rail Europe made the comments following the reopening of London St Pancras station, which is now an international hub offering regular services to Paris, Brussels and Lille.
And with the expansion of affordable continental rail travel, experts predict that VoIP internet telephony packages will only grow in popularity as more and more business travellers see the need to keep in touch with relatives and colleagues abroad.
Commenting on the expansion of Europe's high-speed links, a Rail Europe spokesperson said that the network is rapidly improving both within France and throughout the wider continent.
"The high speed network around France is fantastic," the spokesperson explained. "There was a new line that opened up this year, the TGV Est line, which goes from Paris out to Strasbourg - it then splits and goes up into Germany and down to Switzerland.
VoIP packages such as Vonage's V-Plan 2 allow users to make unlimited calls to 15 countries including France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.
