A new online payment system that will make it easier to purchase goods on the web will be introduced in May, it has been noted.
Commenting on recently released payment software unveiled by POLi and eWise which would allow customers to buy items online direct from their bank account, a spokesperson from Apacs, the UK payments agency, has said that the systems are unnecessary.
"We've got a new faster payments service coming online in May to make your online payments, so why would you sign up to a brand new system?" asked Sandra Quinn, director of corporate communications with Apacs.
The Guardian reports that currently no banks have signed up to the POLi and eWise systems, although Ms Quinn did suggest that in the future there is a possibility that people may make payments using bank account details.
However, strict rules on how information is stored will have to be introduced before such systems become commonplace on the internet, she argued.
